Safety In Job Hunting 

 There are unsafe and fraudulent activities that might occur while job hunting or looking for an employer. Unsafe and fraudulent activities can come in form of:

• Illegal ads requesting your personal or financial information. These often occur on online job boards.
• Phishing - Individuals masquerading themselves as Jobsquare agents or advertisers might send you a mail asking you to submit your data. 
• Paying as part of the employment or recruitment process. 

Email (phishing) scams

They include:

• Address of the Sender – Scammers will often forge the 'from' address to make it look original or official. Keep watch at the 'from' address.
• Generic greetings – Email messages sent by Jobsquare greet you by using your full name. So, be careful of email messages that greet you with generic greetings like ‘Dear Job Seeker’, ‘Dear Freelancer’, or ‘Dear advertisers'. 
• Grammar Errors and Poor Spelling – Most times, phishing emails are not written well. Always check out the grammar and spelling. Once you notice such, have in mind the email was not sent by Jobsquare. 
• Call to action – Phishing emails will always provoke you to make an immediate or fast decision. Scammers do this by creating a false sense of urgency. 
• Fake links – Phishing emails come with a fake link. It is better you don’t click on the link at all so you will not have your personal information obtained.  

Job Advertisements 

Through mouth-watering opportunities that are too good to be true, a lot of people have fallen victim to scammers. When advertisers start asking for the following, be extremely careful:

• An upfront fee for processing your application or awarding you the job before other job seekers. 
• Credit card or bank details 
• Username and password of your social media accounts. 
• Fees for medical testing, travel expenses, job application processing, visa processing, work permit, and other fees. 
• Personal information that is not work-related like marital status, complexion, height, etc.

• If you have already submitted your bank details, contact your financial institution immediately to temporarily block your account against withdrawal and ask for their advice.
